West Point, GA--Our Barons volleyball team traveled to Point University and competed in a Tri-Match against the home team and Southeastern University (FL). The first match against Southeastern proved to be a learning experience for our young team. We had 31 attack errors and 10 serving errors, but also had 25 digs and 15 kills. Our Barons lost (25-16), (25-8), (25-17). During the second match, we were more focused and relaxed and it showed in the final score. Although losing (25-16), (25-17), (25-22), we attacked more effectively and improved our defense with 56 digs. Overall, our Barons fought in two hard matches and learned a lot in the process.
Coach Rose awarded Krizia Cornejo with player of the game status. "Krizia was an undersized libero thrown into the front row at outside hitter and rightside hitter. Playing against two teams today that had height over her, she took it as a challenge and pushed herself to play at a higher level. She continued to attack and never backed down. With the long day, she was still able to finish the match against Point University with a .278 hitting percentage. She is definitely going to be a great addition to the team this year."
Coach Rose is looking forward to the season. "With our first match today, the girls fought through injuries and new positions on the court. Being down a starter and having a long day playing a tri-match, we could see that it took a toll on us. We've been working on conditioning and being able to finish strong this season. Even though we were tired, our play got better and better each set. The girls started to rid the first game jitters and set their sights on playing our game. We have a lot of new players this year and I'm excited to see the excitement and passion these ladies have for the game. It's going to be a good season with them."
The next match for our Barons will be August 25th at 3 pm verses Concordia University-Selma on Reinhardt University's campus.
