Mount Vernon, GA--The game was physical, intense, and long due to two overtime periods, but the men's soccer team had to settle for a tie score (1-1) against Georgia Southwestern State University, a NCAA D2 team. BPC was able to get on the scoreboard first with a cross assist by Nathan Skaggs to Manuel Casanova, who headed the ball in past the goalie. GSWU scored in the second half, which sent the game into two 10 minute overtime halves. Neither team could convert despite many attempts and exceptional plays.

BPC had a total of 19 shots, with 9 being in frame. Goalie Joshua Lloyd played all 110 minutes and had 8 saves. Lionel Touroude was named Player of the Game by Coach Matt Payne because his performance at the heart of the defense helped steady the team and propel them forward.

Coach Matt Payne had this to say about the match: "Really proud of the guys tonight. They worked their tail off the entire game and that's the first thing we ask for. Tonight we played an undefeated D2 team and I felt that we had great runs of play. Coach Russ always has them well organized and we've had some great battles in my time here, so while I had hoped for a win, we'll take the early season draw and use it as a building block moving forward."

The Barons will play next on Friday at St. Andrews University at 3:30 pm.
